Speaking, reading aids, and your coach

How does Guided Conversation work for beginners?

Beginners speak Hebrew from day one inside Talk: listen first, answer with one word, build a full sentence with help, then try it on your own.

Updated

If you're new to speaking Hebrew, you don't start with flashcards or a separate grammar course. You start talking with your coach right inside Talk, with Guided Conversation scaffolding each step.

How a guided turn works

  1. Listen first and answer with one word. Your coach asks a simple question in Hebrew (for example, offering coffee or water) and the help card says Answer with just one word. You pick a word, hear how it sounds, and say it into the microphone.
  2. Build one useful sentence. Next, the Try saying card shows a core Hebrew sentence pattern (such as I want…, I need…, Where is…?, or How much is it?) with words you can plug into it.
  3. Hear it at your pace. Tap any word chip to hear the full sentence in your coach's voice, or tap Slower to hear it at `0.75x` speed. Tap Show meaning whenever you want the English translation and a one-line grammar note.
  4. Try without help. When you feel ready, tap Try without help to fold the card away. If you get stuck, tap Need a hint? to reveal just the first word, then the sentence frame, then the full card.

Help steps back as you improve

Guided support isn't on a timer. It adapts to what your speaking shows:

  • When you use a pattern on your own on a later day, your coach remembers that you own it and folds the help card automatically.
  • If a conversation feels tough, or if you say "Give me a hint" in English, support steps right back in.
  • Repeating a sentence right after the help card is great practice, and your coach waits until you use the pattern unaided on a later day before counting it as settled.
