Speak Hebrew out loud, starting today.

Verbalta is a speaking coach for English speakers learning Modern Israeli Hebrew. You talk, it talks back, on any phone or computer.

From the first word to a real conversation.

You start where you are. A few minutes a day, out loud, and the Hebrew starts to move.

תל אביב

Order the coffee. Ask the way. Laugh at the joke at dinner.

Rehearse the conversations you are actually going to have, then go have them.

Start practicing

A coach who answers back. In Hebrew.

  1. א.Your coach starts the conversation.

Noam asks you something real, in the Hebrew Israelis actually speak. You hear it, and the words stay on screen.

  2. ב.Reading help, when you want it.

Turn on English letters and translations under every line. Add vowel marks. Turn them all off when you are ready.

  3. ג.You answer out loud.

Tap the microphone and say it your way. There is nothing to type.

  4. ד.A nudge, right when it counts.

If something comes out a little off, you see what your coach heard and a more natural way to say it. Then you say it again.

הקפה הזה חם מאוד.

קפה is masculine, so it takes הזה.

Chag sameach! Eifo atem ba-chag ha-shana?

Happy holiday! Where are you spending it this year?

Can’t read the letters yet?

Start talking anyway. The alphabet can catch up.

Plenty of people can sound out a prayer book and still freeze at a café, or the other way round. Choose exactly how much help sits under your coach’s Hebrew.

שלום! מה תרצו לשתות היום?

Shalom! Ma tirtzu lishtot ha-yom?

Hi! What would you like to drink today?

And “you” fits you.

Hebrew says “you” differently to a man, a woman, or a group. Your coach asks once which you prefer, masculine, feminine or rather not say, and never guesses from your name or voice.

Ma ata shote? · What are you drinking?מָה אַתָּה שׁוֹתֶה?

Five voices. Pick the one you like talking to.

Everyone starts with Noam. Switch whenever you like; your words and progress come with you.

Questions people ask first

More in the help center.

Do I need to read Hebrew letters to start?

No. When you set up, your coach asks separately how well you read and how comfortable you are speaking. If you do not read the letters yet, you get English letters and translations under your coach’s Hebrew.

I have never spoken Hebrew. Is that too early?

Not at all. Guided Conversation happens right inside your conversation: you listen first, answer with a single word, then build up to a full sentence with a “Try saying” prompt you can hear at normal or slower speed. The help steps back as you need it less.

Is this Modern Hebrew or Biblical Hebrew?

Both. Conversations are in Modern Israeli Hebrew. The Biblical Hebrew Studio is a separate reading space for the Tanakh, in the same account.

Can I use my English Verbalta account?

Each account learns one language, so an account that has started English stays in English. To learn Hebrew, sign up on this site with a different email address.

How much does it cost?

Every account starts with a free 20-minute trial, no card needed. After that, one plan covers both Modern Hebrew and the Biblical Hebrew Studio.
