Getting started with Hebrew

Who are the Hebrew coaches and how do I change mine?

Hebrew learners practice with Noam, Ayala, Yarden, Eitan, or Oren. Tap your coach's portrait at the top of Talk or go to Settings to switch.

Updated

Every Hebrew learner starts with Noam, and you can switch between five Hebrew coaches whenever you like. Each has their own native Hebrew voice and coaching style.

Meet the five Hebrew coaches

  • Noam: patient and clear. Gives you time to answer. If you get stuck, he shortens the sentence and practices one thing with you.
  • Ayala: direct, step by step. Has you answer with short, clear sentences, then adds a little challenge when you're ready.
  • Yarden: conversation with humor. Helps you talk about what interests you and keeps the conversation moving.
  • Eitan: for your next conversation. Rehearses what you need to say on a phone call, in a meeting, or in an everyday errand in Israel.
  • Oren: ideas that are easy to follow. Helps you explain an idea or tell a short story clearly in Hebrew.

Because Hebrew marks the speaker's gender on verbs and adjectives, each coach speaks about themselves in their own grammatical gender (Noam, Eitan, and Oren in masculine forms; Ayala and Yarden in feminine forms), while addressing you in the forms you chose.

How to change your coach

  1. In Talk, tap your coach's picture at the top of the screen, or go to Account > Settings and tap Change coach.
  2. Tap a coach to read about their style, and tap Choose with their name.

If you're in the middle of a session, your new coach takes over on your next session. Your progress, saved words, verbs, and roots stay with you across all five coaches.
