Progress, verbs, roots, and Biblical Studio

How does the Biblical Hebrew Studio work?

Read the Torah, Prophets, and Writings in Hebrew verse by verse, tap any word for its root and form, listen to the verse, or ask your coach.

Updated

When you switch your learning track to Biblical Hebrew (at setup or in Account > Settings), Verbalta opens the Biblical Hebrew Studio under the Study tab.

Read any book of the Tanakh

  • Browse Torah, Nevi'im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings), or search for a book in English or Hebrew (like Genesis, Psalms, or בראשית).
  • Long verses are broken into readable clauses so you can take the Hebrew one part at a time.
  • Toggle Vowel marks (Niqqud) on or off in the reader toolbar at any moment.

Step-by-step word help (the help ladder)

Instead of giving away the whole English translation at once, tapping any Hebrew word in a guided chapter lets you uncover help one step at a time:

  1. A small hint
  2. The root (its three consonants)
  3. The form in this verse (stem, tense, person)
  4. Its meaning here

When you understand a verse before opening the full translation, the Studio records that as independent reading evidence. You can also open See the full analysis for every word in the verse, or read linked traditional commentary.

Listen, read aloud, and ask your coach

  • Listen: hear the clause or full verse read in your coach's Hebrew voice (a clear Modern Israeli reading of the pointed text).
  • Read it aloud: record yourself reading the Hebrew verse to see which words came through clearly.
  • Say what it means or Check yourself: practice questions on meaning, roots, and verb forms, or explain the verse in your own words.
  • Ask your coach: tap Ask Noam (or your chosen coach) to ask out loud why a verb form is used or how a word differs from Modern Hebrew.
