Progress, verbs, roots, and Biblical Studio

How do Progress, Hebrew Verbs, and Roots work?

Progress tracks your speaking, listening, and reading separately, and gives you interactive tables for Hebrew verb patterns (binyanim) and 3-letter roots.

Updated

Hebrew builds words differently from English: most verbs and nouns grow from three-letter roots (shorashim) arranged into verb patterns (binyanim). Your Progress tab in Hebrew is built around how Hebrew actually works.

Your Hebrew, skill by skill

On the Overview tab in Progress, your activity from the last 30 days is kept separate across three skills:

  • Speaking: how many answers you gave in Hebrew, how many in English, how often you asked for help, and which sentence patterns are getting better or settled.
  • Listening: your answers in listening scenes.
  • Reading: your current reading setting and whether English letters are on or off.

Verbs (by pattern / binyan)

Open Progress > Verbs to explore core Hebrew verbs grouped by their pattern (Pa'al, Pi'el, Hif'il, Hitpa'el, Nif'al):

  • Tap any verb to see its three-letter root, infinitive, present, past, future, and imperative forms, with English letters and vowel marks.
  • Forms that match the grammatical address you chose are marked Yours so you can spot your own present-tense form immediately.
  • Tap Save this verb and your coach will bring it into your upcoming conversations so you use it out loud.

Roots (3-letter shorashim)

Open Progress > Roots to search by a three-letter root (like כתב) or an inflected word (like הזמנתי). You'll see the verbs and nouns that grow from that root and share its core idea, plus notes when a word is borrowed from another language (like טלפון).

Sessions, Words, and Focus

Just like in English, Sessions keeps every past conversation and its corrections, Words keeps every word you saved (noting which verb a Hebrew form belongs to), and Focus highlights recurring patterns your coach is helping you smooth out.
